Christian Witness 101

In the not-too-distant past, evangelism meant inviting someone to church.  Witnessing was sharing an informational flyer about an upcoming event or new program your congregation was launching.  Our society expected people to go to church regularly.  That has changed, and with the change has come new expectations for evangelism and outreach.  Once, the church was the means to a faith conversation.  Now, the church becomes part of the conversation after a conversion experience.  Today’s outreach focuses on connecting people to Jesus and His amazing gift of salvation. In this course the participants will explore three aspects to Christian Outreach.

Lay Leadership Training

Lay leadership is important to the ongoing growth of the church.  The church depends on laity, working along side their pastor, to lead Bible studies, call on the sick, visit the members, read at worship services, develop and run ministry programs, handle the congregations administrative business, and most importantly, as we serve our community/neighbor, "witness/evangelize" in the name of and for the sake of Jesus.  However, many laity do not feel up to the task.  This section of the Michigan District eLearning site contains 14 courses designed to help, encourage, and equip laity.  These courses range from understanding the bible, to learning sound doctrine, to Christian caregiving, to teaching the faith, to outreach, and to leadership.

Mission Catalyst Program

Now is the time:
Christ invites all of us to join Him in His mission to seek and save the lost.

The Mission Catalyst program is the Michigan District’s version of the lay evangelist training program. This self-paced learning experience equips participants to be everyday missionaries in their communities and to lead their congregations in mission action.

In the second petition, we pray, “Thy kingdom come.”  Luther explained in his small catechism that God’s kingdom comes without our prayers, but we pray this petition that God’s kingdom may come to us.  In further explaining the petition, we understand that we are praying that God’s kingdom would come through us, through our witness. Sign up today and discover the difference you can make as you and your congregation join Jesus in His mission.
